There’s something about road trips with kids—you pack the snacks, load up the car, and hope they don’t start asking “Are we there yet?” five minutes in. That’s why I created this road sign scavenger hunt, along with a few other road trip printables, to help keep kids busy. Instead of hearing the dreaded “I’m bored” or another “Are we there yet?”, they’ll be having fun with these printables.

That’s what I love about this activity—it keeps kids busy in the best way, and you don’t need anything fancy to pull it off. Whether you’re heading out on a big trip or just driving a few hours, this game makes the ride go a lot smoother.

What is a Scavenger Hunt

A scavenger hunt is a game where people try to find certain items. In this case, you’ll be searching for different road signs. You are looking for a stop sign, a no U-turn sign, a do not enter sign, and more. There are twelve road signs in total you’ll be searching for. The goal is to find all of them.

How to Play the Road Sign Scavenger Hunt

To play the road sign scavenger hunt is super easy. Just give each kid a copy of the printable and something to write with. As you drive, they’ll look out the window and try to spot the road signs on the list—like stop signs, no parking signs, or construction signs. When they see one, they check it off. It’s that simple! The scavenger hunt includes twelve road signs kids will have to search for.

You can play a few different ways, too. Kids can play on their own and see who finds the most, or you can team up in pairs or groups. You could even add a little challenge by seeing who can find a whole row of signs first (like bingo). No matter how you play, it’s a fun way to keep everyone looking out the window instead of asking, “Are we there yet?”
